Beethoven Symphony No.9

Today is throwback Thursday!! 😀

191 years ago on 7th May of 1824, Beethoven’s Ninth Symphony was performed for the first time.

Completed in the same year this symphony is one of the best-known works in classical music, being considered by many as one of the Beethoven’s greatest works and it stands as one of the most played symphonies in the world.

This work was the first symphony using voices, that were taken from “Ode to Joy” by Friedrich Schiller, with additions made by the composer.

Despite having premiered all of his major works on Vienna, the composer wanted to perform this one in Berlin. But after a major petition signed by a number of prominent Viennese music patrons and performers Beethoven was so flattered by this action that he choose to premier the 9th Symphony in the Theater am Karntnertor in Vienna on 7 May 1824.
